Some Useful Metatags Commonly used by Search Engines

Meta Description Tags:

There are so many meta tags out there, how many of you know which Meta Tag is appropriate for search engines. Lots of Newbie's are not conscious of it.

The description is presented to the user and the document's title as the result of a search.

Lots of robots use the first few lines of text as a description if the Description Meta tag is not present.

Generally meta description tags are used as snippets by search engines when there is no text on the page.

One of the essential things that you can do for your site for optimization to search engines is writes a good description for your site. If you spend more time on the description, and tailor it so that it is definitive, concise, and follows all of the guidelines, your site should not have a problem giving a good conversion.

Syntax:
<META NAME="description" CONTENT="your description here.">

A well written Meta Description Tag:

<meta name="DESCRIPTION" content="Branded Sports Goods Online - Buy your Sports items, Sports shoes from our online selling store - SportsSpot.com.">

The Keyword rich Meta Description Tag:

Example:

<meta name="keywords" content=" Seo india, india SEOs, search engine optimization, search engine ranking, Internet Marketing, SEO Indian service, Search engine optimization Company">

There is nothing wrong in writing a Keyword rich description meta tag generator but it will be worth if you write one that is good for conversion as it is shown in the SERPs as soon as your site is listed in the search engines.

Meta Keywords Tag:

Space-separated list of key words for indexing your document. A few robots look at keywords in context, so it is best to preserve word order and case. Keywords tag is still used in a few search engines.

The keywords tag has to contain words or else phrases that are relevant to the content of your site, and should stay in the guidelines of the search engines. A few people will either put all of their keywords on each page, or will try to optimize one page for all of the keywords. This is not a good practice.

Syntax:
<META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="your site keywords here ">

Example for Meta Keywords Tag:

<meta name="keywords" content=" SEO Indian service, Search engine optimization Company, SEO Services in Chennai, On page optimization india">

Robots Meta Tags:

also read robots.txt resource:
<META NAME="ROBOTS"

CONTENT="ALL | NONE | NOINDEX | NOFOLLOW | INDEX | FOLLOW | NOARCHIVE">

default = empty = "ALL"
"NONE" = "NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW"

The filler is a comma separated list of terms: ALL, NONE, INDEX,NOINDEX, FOLLOW, NOFOLLOW.
Discussion:The filler is a comma separated list of terms: ALL, NONE, INDEX, NOINDEX, FOLLOW, and NOFOLLOW. Discussion: This tag is meant to give users who cannot control the robots.txt file at their sites. It provides a final chance to keep their content out of search services. It was decided not to add syntax to let robot specific permissions within the meta-tag. INDEX means that robots are welcome to include this page in search services. FOLLOW means that robots are greet to follow links from this page to find other pages. So a value of "NOINDEX" permits the subsidiary links to be explored, even if the page is not indexed. A value of "NOFOLLOW" permits the page to be indexed, but no links from the page are explored (this might be useful if the page is a free entry point into pay-per-view content, for instance. A value of "NONE" tells the robot to ignore the page.

NOARCHIVE will tell the robot not to archive the page and it will help the bots from not extracting the contents of the page.
